Oracy in the Music Classroom

31 Jan 2025
The Workshop
Secondary Drama Secondary Music

How can we help our students think and talk like musicians? In this session on oracy in the music classroom, we’ll share some deliberate talk protocols that you can use straight away to improve the quality and purpose of talk in your classrooms, whether discussing a piece of music, to critiquing & re-drafting work. We’ll explore how oracy practices can enhance your entire music curriculum and the quality of music that students produce at any age of schooling. You will come away with tools you can use to implement oracy protocols and more purposeful talk into every music lesson.

Speakers
Emily Crowhurst, Head of 4-18 Music & Performing Arts - School 21
