Performing Shakespeare with National Youth Theatre

12:45 - 13:30

A session exploring classical text and how to approach performing Shakespeare's work with your students. This session will incorporate ideas for working on Shakespeare monologues for auditions, and also touch on how your students can get involved with the National Youth Theatre.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, delegates should be able to:

  • Use a series of tools and exercises to engage the group of young people in the plot and themes of a classical text
  • Help their students overcome any intimidation they may feel when working with verse and Shakespeare’s phrasing
  • Know how to select extracts from classical texts to explore with their group
  • Teach young people approaches to performing Shakespearean extracts and monologues, to ‘de-mystify’ the text.
Suitable for Key Stages 3 to 5.
