  • 4th Oct 2017
  • 13:35 - 14:20

A hands-on session in which delegates will use whole class ensemble playing to compose creatively, reflecting on the core requirements of the National Curriculum at KS1-3.

*Delegates are encouraged to bring their own instruments to this session to participate fully.

Participants will start with a composer and explore links with literacy; the ‘inter-related dimensions’ of music; and practical approaches to reading, writing and listening to music. Participants will also explore how to capture the skills and progress made by students through practical music-making and how this can be used to fit within a whole school assessment model.

*Delegates are encouraged to bring their own instruments to this session to participate fully.

Delegates will:

  • Increase confidence in using voice and body percussion in warm-up activities
  • Learn tricks to help students improvise and compose confidently on a musical instrument within a group
  • Develop a ‘classroom clear’ approach to tracking musical progress
  • Explore effective ways of teaching theoretical concepts through simple practical activities.
